While sometimes this road called life seems long and daunting, it really is in the blink of an eye.
A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of enjoying a 5-hour conversation with someone I truly admire and respect. It was one of those great conversations about real life, not work or mundane day to day moments but about self-discovery of who we think we are and who we want to be and that place in society and in the spectrum of humanity in general. It was refreshing to say the least and we bounced on the topic of my business.
He mentioned getting family photos done and how they sit on a drive somewhere, I didn't have an answer for him at that point - as a photographer this is dreadful to me, and it makes me weep (haha) you spend so much time and money on family photos and they matter! They really do. There are countless studies about children seeing happy photos of their family and how it can directly correlate to their self-esteem.
After this last week where I photographed an extended family photography session, This was in Elkhorn, NE and it was the perfect evening. It really made me reflect on my own family and just why these photos are so damn important (and yes you should do them as often as you can and no, do not leave them on a drive.) :) (Print them, make an album...do something with them- do ANYTHING with them but leave them on the computer)
While I was editing these, I thought back to all the missed opportunities of family sessions with my loved ones...I have 2 professional photos of my mom, my grandma and I, Three of my mom and I, One of my dad and I and two with my siblings...
THAT SUCKS. That hurts my heart.
So, for my friend who speculated on the matter of family photo sessions, Here is my answer as to if professional family photos really matter:
They do, We are here only a short time and to be able to have people in your corner who love you, who grew up with you and who root for you...while it may be something that should be easily had by all, not everyone has that kind of love or family unit - it is a rare gift to just have people who love you So put on a coordinating outfit, smush into your loved ones and smile.
I promise the memory will be worth it.
What an absolute blessing it is to have everyone still on this plane of life where you can capture the love of your family and this family in particular -
Geez Lousie Cheddar Cheese - I am not one to toot my own horn.... but
BEEP, BEEP!
This family was magic, the evening was perfect, the outfits complete, the love and energy and hyping up of each other while they did induvial family shots....MAGIC.
The cornerstone of this family I believe have done a pretty stellar job of raising some pretty stellar humans and they also are married to and have incredible children as well.
A family that loves each other and is there for one another is a pretty damn big blessing.
The sheer joy I have from this session...I simply have no words. So here are some images...Thank you so much for letting me capture your fam bam's love story.
What a love story it is!
